"Mine" is a song by American singer-songwriter Slayyyter. It was released as the mixtape's second single on February 14th, 2019 for Valentine's Day. It was later re-released on May 3rd on all streaming devices under Big Beat Records. It's the second track from her self-titled debut mixtape.

Background[]

Slayyyter first teased the track on January 29th, 2019 when she shared a 14-second snippet with a picture of heart candies.[1] Over the next five days, she continued to tease it by retweeting various Twitter memes relating to it.

Eventually, after those five days were over, Slayyyter confirmed that the song is titled "Mine" on February 1st, 2019.[2] The next day, she announced that it would be released on Valentine's Day.[3]

Following its release, the song reached #38 on the iTunes pop chart in the United States. In an interview with Billboard, Slayyyter stated, "Twitter lost its mind. I hope people show the song as much love on Valentine's Day as they did the snippet". She also said that she had first heard it as a demo, explaining, "Robokid played it for me at a session and I fell in love with it. Good Intent wrote the first version I heard and I immediately felt like it was a hit. I got home [and] after putting it off for a while, I finally recorded the vocals for it in my closet 'til like 7 am". She described it as "a bouncy lovey-dovey house track about wanting someone really bad", and said that "it's the perfect soundtrack for drunken sex in the back of an Uber".[4]

Critical Reception[]

The song had generally positive reviews from both fans and critics alike. When the song was first announced, it was made into a popular meme by stan Twitter. Project U called the song a "half-house-half-Britney-level-pop belter" and "the first proper gay anthem of the year".[5] PopDust referred to the song as a "dance-y deep house track", and stated that "Slayyyter's popularity goes to show that any artist can infiltrate the mainstream if they understand the internet and the value of a well-placed lo-fi, photo booth selfie".[6]

Billboard called the track a "glittery, house-infused track that is instantly memorable from the moment she purrs, 'Oh me, oh my'",[7] while Rolling Stone called it a "flirty deep house track".[8]

Lyrics[]

[Verse 1]
I fell in love
First date, but boy you know it's not enough
And you talkin' to me, boy, like you wanted something
Well, baby, come and- come and get you some

[Pre-Chorus 1]
Just hit me on your celly when you're ready
And he tell his friends he want me
Boy, you know I'm tempted, you know I'm tempted
Let me give you this attention
And you know, boy, I got somethin' special out of these women
Oh, you can get it

[Chorus]
Oh me, oh my, oh me, oh my
Oh yeah, I wanna make you mine
Oh me, oh my, oh me, oh my
Yeah, I wanna make you mine
Oh me, oh whoa, oh, oh me, oh whoa
Yeah yeah, oh me, oh my
Oh me, oh whoa, oh, oh me, oh whoa
Yeah yeah, oh me, oh my

[Verse 2]
Out of the club
I didn't know your name, boy
I fell in love
First kiss, your lips drove me insane, boy

[Pre-Chorus 2]
Just hit me on your celly when you're ready
And he tell his friends he want me
Boy, you know I'm tempted, you know I'm tempted
Let me give you this attention
Oh, what you doin' to me?
Oh, you can get it

[Chorus]
Oh me, oh my, oh me, oh my
Oh yeah, I wanna make you mine
Oh me, oh my, oh me, oh my
Yeah, I wanna make you mine
Oh me, oh whoa, oh, oh me, oh whoa
Oh me, oh my
Oh me, oh whoa, oh, oh me, oh whoa
Baby, oh me, oh my

[Outro]
Oh me, oh my, oh me, oh my
Oh yeah, I wanna make you mine
Oh me, oh my, oh me, oh my
Yeah, I wanna make you mine
Oh me, oh whoa, oh, oh me, oh whoa
Oh me, oh my
Oh me, oh whoa, oh, oh me, oh whoa
Yeah, oh me, oh my
